An event dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Institute of Physics
On May 8, 2026, an event titled “Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijani Science,” dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of the birth of the National Leader, was held at the Institute of Physics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event was opened with an introductory speech by Acting Director Professor Elchin Huseynov.
The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty of our country and the territorial integrity of our Motherland was honored with a minute of silence and deep respect.
Professor Elchin Huseynov noted in his speech that National Leader Heydar Aliyev rendered unparalleled services in securing and preserving Azerbaijan’s state independence and in building a strong national statehood. As a result of the National Leader’s tireless activity and dedicated efforts, the foundations of statehood were established, the Supreme Law and the Constitution were adopted, and the national ideology of Azerbaijanism was formed. Comprehensive political and economic reforms were implemented, and important decisions and laws promoting democratic development were adopted.
Later in his speech, Professor Elchin Huseynov noted that National Leader Heydar Aliyev, in addition to being a prominent political figure and statesman recognized worldwide, also rendered exceptional services to the development of Azerbaijani science. Emphasizing that scientific achievements are an essential component of the state-building process, the Great Leader consistently paid special attention to this field throughout all periods of his leadership of Azerbaijan and acted as a strong patron of national science. He highly valued Azerbaijani science and intellectuals as a whole, always demonstrating great attention and care toward them. From the very first days of leading the Republic, he attached particular importance to the development of science, continuously supported this sphere, and made significant decisions aimed at ensuring its rapid progress.
At the event, speeches were delivered by Corresponding Member of ANAS Salima Mehdiyeva, Associate Professor Ravan Mehdiyeva, Chairperson of the Trade Union Committee and Doctor of Philosophy in Physics Sitara Baghirova, as well as New Azerbaijan Party member and scientific researcher Bayram Khudayarov.
A video dedicated to the life and legacy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was also screened during the event.
