The international conference on "Environmental Impact of Military Conflicts" opened with an official ceremony
The opening ceremony of the international conference on "Environmental Impact of Military Conflicts", dedicated to the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty", took place in the conference hall of the Grand Hotel Europe.
The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Radiation Problems of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Western Caspian University, Tbilisi State University (Georgia), Ege University (Turkey), Karshi State University (Uzbekistan), and the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
At the beginning of the conference, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice-President of ANAS and co-chair of the conference, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, emphasized the scientific and strategic significance of the event:
"It is at the opening ceremony of this conference that we draw the attention of the scientific community to the environmental impact of conflicts. The discussions held during the various sessions will lay the foundation for coordinating future activities in this area and for strengthening both domestic and international cooperation."
Then, Professor Islam Mustafayev, Director of the Institute of Radiation Problems and Corresponding Member of ANAS, outlined the purpose of the event and stated:
"The main goal of the conference is to scientifically investigate environmental damage in conflict areas, assess ecological consequences, and identify ways to address them. All reports presented will be strictly scientific and free from political discussions."
Nijat Mammadli, Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education, welcomed the conference participants and noted, despite the non-political nature of the Conference, significant policy documents could be developed based on the reports and discussions. He wished all participants fruitful and productive discussions.
Several officials and scientists also delivered welcoming speeches at the event.
