Institute of Physics Marks Youth Day with a Special Event
On February 2, 2026, the Institute of Physics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan hosted a ceremonial event dedicated to Youth Day.
The event was opened by the Acting Director of the Institute, Doctor of Physical Sciences, Professor Elchin Huseynov, who congratulated the staff on the occasion and highlighted the historical significance of the date.
In his address, Professor Huseynov recalled that the First Forum of the Youth of Independent Azerbaijan was held on February 2, 1996, at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. By a decree signed by Heydar Aliyev, February 2 was officially declared Youth Day and has since been celebrated annually across the country. He emphasized that the establishment of Youth Day is directly associated with the name of the National Leader. It was during his second term in office that the foundations of state youth policy were laid in Azerbaijan, and systematic mechanisms were created to support the comprehensive development of young people.
Speaking about the role of youth in the country’s socio-political life, Professor Huseynov noted that the youth policy initiated by Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev. He underlined that Azerbaijani youth have become a reliable pillar of the state. In the context of modern global challenges, it is particularly important for young people to remain committed to national and moral values while being well-educated, innovative, and socially responsible.
He further stressed that the consistent state support provided to young people creates favorable conditions for their professional growth and achievement of ambitious goals. “Our primary responsibility is to justify this trust by continuously enhancing our knowledge and skills and by contributing tangible scientific results to society,” he added.
Members of the Institute’s Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, Doctor of Philosophy in Physics Behbud Ibrahimov and Ali Mammadov, also addressed the audience. In their speeches, they highlighted that young people have always been the driving force behind innovation, development, and scientific progress. They emphasized that the future of science—particularly a fundamental field such as physics—is closely linked to the creativity, energy, and exploratory spirit of young researchers.
The speakers noted that young scientists at the Institute of Physics aim not only to master existing knowledge but also to actively contribute to the development of new scientific directions. They underlined that the Council’s main objective is to unlock the scientific potential of young researchers, strengthen their integration into the international scientific community, and expand opportunities for knowledge and experience exchange.
It was particularly emphasized that the continuous support of the Institute’s leadership and senior scientists plays a crucial role in achieving these goals. The young researchers expressed their deep gratitude for the guidance and encouragement provided.
The event concluded with an appeal to young people to remain committed to lifelong learning, exploration, and the bold pursuit of innovative ideas. It was noted that every scientific step taken today lays a solid foundation for the technological and intellectual advancement of tomorrow.
