Seminar on the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry and Cheminformatics Held at the Institute of Chemistry
On 10 July 2026, the Institute of Chemistry, a Public Legal Entity under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, hosted a scientific seminar entitled "The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry and Cheminformatics," with the participation of specialists from the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University.
The seminar, organized by the International Collaboration Sector of the Institute, brought together researchers from the Institutes of Chemistry and Physics. The event focused on the application of artificial intelligence technologies—one of the key priorities of modern science—in the fields of chemistry, cheminformatics, bioinformatics, pharmacology, and materials science.
The seminar featured presentations on "The Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Natural Sciences" delivered by several experts from the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). The speakers included Yusif Ibrahimov, PhD in Computer Science and Project Manager at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence; Farah Asgarxanova, PhD in Chemistry and Head of the Cheminformatics and Computational Chemistry Research Group within the University's Science Department; and Nigar Ismayilova, PhD in Systems Analysis, Information Processing and Management, Associate Professor, and faculty member of the Department of General and Applied Mathematics.
The presentations highlighted the diverse applications of artificial intelligence in bioinformatics, medicine, chemistry, physics, and cheminformatics, as well as contemporary approaches to the processing and analysis of large-scale datasets. The speakers also discussed the role of these technologies in accelerating scientific research, improving the accuracy of research outcomes, and fostering the development of innovative solutions.
Following the presentations, Rustam Rustamov, Chief Specialist of the International Collaboration Sector at the Institute of Physics, noted that scientific seminars of this kind make a valuable contribution to strengthening cooperation among research institutions and higher education establishments, while also promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise. He expressed his confidence that joint initiatives and multidisciplinary research focused on the application of artificial intelligence in the natural sciences would pave the way for more impactful scientific achievements and foster future innovation.
The seminar concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, followed by extensive scientific discussions and a productive exchange of ideas among the participants.
