[10.12.2025]

A training session titled “Gender Equality in the Context of Climate Change: Strengthening Women’s Rights and Opportunities” was held at the Institute of Radiation Problems under the Ministry of Science and Education.

Opening the event, Associate Professor Ravan Mehdiyeva — Executive Director of the Institute and Chairwoman of the Institute’s Women’s Council — emphasized that climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity today. She noted that this phenomenon seriously affects both the environment and human life, influencing living conditions and work capacity. Mehdiyeva also provided information on the scientific research carried out at the Institute in this field.

Highlighting the disproportionate impact of climate change, R. Mehdiyeva stated that women and children are the most vulnerable to its negative effects. “The main objective of this training is to promote ways to reduce the impacts of climate change. The event also aims to underline the importance of family and marriage among young people, while raising awareness about the negative consequences of early marriage and consanguineous marriages,” she said.

The program featured lectures by Hafiza Imanova, research associate at the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of Sustainable Development of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of ANAS, who spoke on “The Social Impacts of Climate Change in the Context of Sustainable Development in Azerbaijan and Worldwide.” Additionally, Shafa Abdurrahimova, senior lecturer at the Department of Regional Studies for Western Countries at the Azerbaijan University of Languages, delivered a lecture on “The Impact of Climate Change on Gender Equality.”

At the end of the session, lecturers addressed numerous questions from participants.
